Year 9 students experienced an exciting and gory performance of Macbeth at The Globe theatre on Friday. Several different convincing blood effects were used in the production and interestingly, the director of the performance chose to update the costumes with contemporary army uniforms. The set was designed to look war torn and messy making it clear that the themes of Shakespeare´s play are as relevant today as they were then.

We were just one of eight other schools attending the play. All of the students´ behaviour was impeccable and I was really proud of the way in which they represented Hampton Academy.

Here are what students have to say about their trip:

‘Macbeth was a very exciting play with lots of bloody effects. I thoroughly enjoyed the day´ — Harry Chapman

‘I enjoyed the play as it was exciting and had very good special effects such as the fake blood and you never knew what was going to happen next. It was an amazing day experience and I would love to go again´ — Alice Osborn

‘Macbeth was a very intriguing play because there was always something exciting happening in the plot´ — Kayleigh Dawes

‘Seeing the performance was a great experience because the actors got involved with the audience´ — Paige Humphreys

‘Everyone enjoyed themselves because it was different to see it and understand than read from a book´ — Amy Wade.
