On the 17th November, 25 year 11 students were given the opportunity to take part in a day long debating workshop, run by the English Speaking Union. The workshop was led by an experienced debater who has taught in schools in the UK and abroad, as well as having reached the Grand Final of the European Universities Debating Championships, and the Quarter-finals of the World Universities Debating Championships.

Everyone selected to take part, stood up and spoke impressively, either in a debate at the end of the day or in some of the mini debates and exercises. The day was great fun and combined games and exercises to teach a range of skills including:

  • clarity of expression
  • critical thinking
  • listening and response
  • handling your nerves

Well done year 11, and make sure you come along to Friday lunchtime´s debating club to demonstrate and develop your new debating skills.
