After an action packed first term at Hampton Academy, I would like to congratulate all students who have represented their school in sports fixtures and competitions.Hampton Academy entered the Richmond borough boys Football leagues at every age group in autumn 2010 and the headline success story for the academy was the Year 9 boys. Mr Crossan led the boys to a North League Championship, with an unbeaten record, and they progressed to the Borough Grand Final. The lads narrowly missed out on victory in a 4-2 thriller and were the overall Richmond runners up.
The Year 9, and 10-11 combined girls netballers also competed in the Richmond school leagues, playing seven intense rounds of netball across the borough. Similarly, the Year 7 and 8 girls had their chance to impress in the girls´ Football and Hockey League as Miss Davidson battled against the wintry weather to prepare them for some tough fixtures.
Mr Giblin´s new Rugby League coaching sessions produced three teams to compete in the Harlequins RL Champion Schools Festivals. The Year 7 boys developed well and challenged for the semi finals, and the impressive Year 9 boys´ team, beat tournament favourites, Teddington, and narrowly missed out on the Grand Final. For the first time, Hampton Academy entered a girls´ team in to the Year 7 tag rugby competition. From being complete novices, the girls went from strength to strength, winning two and drawing to take overall third place in the Borough.
Hampton Academy´s newly formed Rugby League players were so impressive that two players were ‘Talent Identified´ by the RFL and were invited to attend a talent training camp. Congratulations to Keegan Stewart and Harry Chapman. In addition, over a dozen more boys were invited to join local Rugby League club, ‘Richmond Warriors´ and the entire girls´ squad were invited to join the local girls´ team,‘West London Jets´.
Mr Mayfield took a group of Year 10 students to the Volleyball Cluster Festival they defied the odds and achieved second place to progress to the Borough Championships. Mr Mayfield rallied the boys to exceed their potential and they have progressed another stage to the South London finals. Good luck boys!
Boys and girls from the upper school entered the local Badminton competitions, and it was Ms Nuttall´s girls who walked away with the silver medals! Well done to Mafuza Siddique, Holly Cronin, Danielle Rooney and Maisie Selwood.
Our Hampton Academy Table Tennis teams (girls and boys) took part in the Borough festivals and students from every year group competed in the Richmond Cross Country Championships. In other news, Ms Horsburgh is continuing to build her indoor rowing squad for the National Junior Indoor Rowing Championships.
Congratulations to all students who represented the academy in sports fixtures last term and good luck to students who will be competing this term.
