South African Visitors to Hampton Academy
Last week, Hampton Academy were delighted to meet Thana Pienaar and Ivonne Coetzee, the Principal and Deputy Principal of Prestige High School in Pretoria.
The Visitors were particularly interested in observing Science, Arts and tutorial sessions at our school. Lessons with an international themeThey toured the Academy and observed a year 8 African Art Class, a Year 8 music Class studying sporting themes and several Year 7 science classes where Dr. Chandon showed them how the steps worked in practice. Luckily Thana and Ivonne had brought some wonderful African sunshine with them and were able to enjoy lunch outside whilst speaking to members of staff about tutorials, goal setting and the curriculum. Fantastic steel pansMiss Akdeniz and the steel pan band entertained our visitors during lunch. Thank-you to the band for giving up their lunch time and entertaining the visitors with a typically fantastic performance. On Tuesday our visitors were introduced by Mrs McCormack to a range of arts partners hoping to develop links so as to enable some of Prestige College performers to perform in Richmond. Having been offered several opportunities previously, this now is in the planning stages. London 2012All Learning Schools Trust student performers should look forward to opportunities to perform in the Summer of 2012 as we extend our hand of friendship across the globe in this Olympic year. Students should remember that the South African Olympic team will be training at St Marys University, Twickenham - the venue for our school sports day last year. ![]() ![]() ![]() |
