Royal Ballet School Project — What have the students learnt?

Over the past 4 months, Hampton Academy students have been working in collaboration with the Royal Ballet School students and their teachers on a joint piece of choreography and joint showcase. Rachel Varney 9CD sums up the project well in her evaluation document below:

Being able to have the opportunity to visit White Lodge has been an amazing experience. I have had a brilliant journey over these past five months learning about the arts of ballet, and dancing with new people I have just met. Training with Bim and Rhian was really good as they are excellent

teachers. They are extremely good at what they do. The students currently attending the Royal Ballet School are going to extremely well in the future. This project has helped me realise that you can succeed and become good at anything you set your mind to.

During the process of making and learning the choreography, it was really fun but stressful at times. It was nice to know that the piece was made up of movements that all of us had come up with during training. It was interesting to have had the chance to make up small dance routines within small groups made up of Hampton Academy and White Lodge.

Over the past five months, I have been dancing with new teachers and students. We all got along very well as soon as we met but, I have learnt through other peoples actions that whether you get along with other people or not you need to put everything a side and get on with what you are there to do.

The final performance was really good. I had so much fun dancing the routines I participated in, especially the final dance with White Lodge and Hampton Academy dancing all as one. I loved dancing alongside everyone else as one big company. It was nice to share this experience with a really nice group of people. I would turn back time to do the whole performance again any day. There were so many positive comments about how well everyone performed their dances and how enjoyable it was to watch from start to finish.

Throughout these five months, I have made many new friends; some quicker than others. I have made friends with students from Hampton Academy as well as The Royal Ballet School. We have become very close and do not want to say good bye. We have each other on Facebook and some have exchanged numbers with each other but it is not going to be the same as the time we have spent getting to know each other over these past months. We will all have to try to meet up one day.

Thank you for letting me take part in this dance project. I have loved it all the way through.
