Hampton Academy students and staff along with our colleagues from Leadbitter Construction Group joined the rest of the country in remembering British service personnel past and present this week.

Remembrance Assemblies

Students attended special assemblies exploring the theme of Remembrance and we have supported the poppy appeal by raising money through the sale of poppies.

Year 9 Curriculum

Students in Year 9 felt particularly touched by the events as they have been studying The Great War in History lessons and many visited Ypres with Ms. Smith and the Humanties team. In addition, those currently studying Step 13 in English have been reading poems inspired by the theme of War and Conflict by poets such as Wilfred Owen, Siegfried Sassoon and John McCrae.

As always, the two minute silence was observed impeccably by all and students were given the opportunity to watch the BBC's coverage from the Cenotaph.

"We all bought poppies as we wanted to show our respect. I've never heard the school so quiet. It show that we all understand how important it is to show we are grateful."

Kirtsy B. Year 9.

"It's important that we say thank you to the soldiers. Lots of us are doing parades on Sunday with Scouts, Guides or Cadets too."
