Hampton Academy Rebuild — Progress Report: 17th August 2011

Passers-by and interested parties in the greater Hampton area won´t have failed to notice that our rebuild programme is well underway. Principal Sue Demont has been keeping an eye on the progress of both the demolition and the new accommodation as the summer has progressed, with the latter on schedule to be handed over on the 18th.

Since the end of term the art block and most of the old admin corridor have been demolished, and work has started on bringing down the former Wordsworth College and maths accommodation. The mammoth drainage works (that´s the massive hole at the front) are nearly complete and a new car park will be laid out over them in the next month.

At the rear of the site, the new Wordsworth College, ICT and maths accommodation is in place and ready to be fitted out with brand new furniture and ICT equipment. These learning spaces are finished to a high standard and represent a significant improvement on the old accommodation. We are pleased that virtually all students will have the chance to learn in these rooms for at least part of their timetables, with Wordsworth students benefiting from 5th September from having a single modern learning zone to match that of Conrad College.

The transformation of two former technology (T3 and ICT4) rooms into art spaces is also well under way, and we are confident that students and staff alike will benefit from these two highly successful curriculum areas being co-located, with two technicians in support.

The hard work and excellent organisation of our ICT and premises teams, ably led by Linda Hutchinson and Jonathan Griffiths, is much valued throughout this intensely busy period. Please note that at present there is NO on-site parking at the academy.
