G & T Dancers at The Scoopby Nikita Janagol, Kipling College
Over a course of 6 weeks G & T Dancers were chosen to learn and perform a routine choreographed by Kelly Bull (Dance Mentor and Choreographer). The routine was contemporary based with elements of floor work every so often. There were several sections of the dance that were very different but similar at the same time. The music is quite fast with underlying melodies and tones that had slower speeds and different beats. The movement used a range of dynamics in relation with the different melodies and tones in the music.
Most of the dance was split in groups throughout, swapping on and off stage changing the space and position of the dance. There was also a small section where we could make up a 16 count mini phrase in partners, using inspiration from other elements of the dance. I liked putting my own knowledge and ideas into a mini phrase and bringing it to life with my partner. My favourite part of the dance was the floor work. I hadn“t really done any floor work in the past and found I found it interesting to learn. I think it made our dance unique to others at the scoop. The movements were different to other contemporary dances I have learnt in the past and this gave me new skill to develop and broaden my dance knowledge. On Sunday 10th July 2011 was performance day at The Scoop in London. We would perform and watch other dancers express their styles and ideas. We were meeting at The Scoop in the morning met there by Kelly our choreographer. Then we got given a room to get changed and get ready by stretching before we would perform. When we did our performance I was nervous at first but was very happy to be a part of it. After we had performed I stayed at The Scoop to watch other performances. I enjoyed the experience and would love to participate in something similar in the future. ![]() ![]() ![]() |
