This year a class of dual linguist students in Year 8 have been offered the unique experience of working with people from another country. They have been involved in a project with a school in France.The aim of the project is:
- to help students understand the importance of languages and to bring an international dimension to the heart of the curriculum;
- to offer real interaction in French with native speakers and simple cultural exchanges;
- to improve their writing and reading skills.
The school in France is called “Lycée de l´Hautil". It is a mixed school situated in the town of Jouy le Moutier (45 minutes North West of Paris).
So far students have been writing about:
- Themselves and their families, where they live, their house, best friend(s)
- Routine during the week and at the weekend
- Hobbies
- Favourite “things": e.g. colours, types of programmes and titles, films, actors, sports, singers, foods, drinks, animals, etc.
And their second letter was about Christmas Traditions in England:
- Traditional food and drinks
- Customs and traditions (e.g. exchanging presents, decorations used, special days, etc.)
- Folk stories and characters linked to Christmas celebrations
- Christmas wishes in different languages.
They are now writing their third project on Traditional food and drinks in France:
- Eating habits of French people
- Examples of typically French food and drinks
- French food and drinks that their family use or see on supermarket shelves.
- A French recipe, etc.
Students have been delighted to receive letters from their pen friends and learn about different cultures and ways of life.
