Dancers work with the English National Ballet
Dancers at Hampton Academy have been taking part in many dance activities this summer, one of them being the world record attempt described by some of our students below:

We´d been practising from a video made for the event for a couple of weeks after school and at 1pm on Friday 20th May we were finally ready for the real thing. The dance was fairly easy but very energetic to make it perfect for everyone to learn. So by 12:59pm we had all got dressed into our colourful clothes with black leggings and imaginative socks, got the video camera set up and were ready for the 10 second count down. It didn´t take us long to totally get into it, jumping around and smiling for the camera for 5 minutes. By the end we were all really proud that we´d worked so hard and it had all paid off, and we were also very tired. I really hope we´ve managed to break the record maybe we will end up in the Guinness Book of World Records! I´m really happy I took part in this." Pollyanna Jenkins 9CO “The dance was created to help keep people healthy, and it was said that doing this 5 minute dance as part of a healthy lifestyle would keep you fit and healthy. Everyone from Hampton Academy who took part in the 5ADAY dance really enjoyed it, and everyone really got into it; from the jumping up and down to the shoulder thrusts. We all also made up our own freestyle section which really showed off our individuality and creativeness." Greta Gidley 9WP “The tension built as we were told the dance was only to be filmed once, so no mistakes and no slip ups. We stood in our starting positions waiting for the music to hit our ears, with the camera staring straight at us ready to see every drop of sweat that would fall off our brow. It looked awesome when everyone did the air guitar move at the same time, some of us really did look like real rockers! I had so much fun performing the routine and I hope I get the chance to do something like this again in the future." Charlotte Aldridge 8WH “It was fun to do this with my friends and it was an achievement I am proud of." Amy Wade 9WP “I've learnt how to pick up movements much quicker and concentrate so I get the movements better." Masha Kiyan 9WP Two students in their write up of the event talk about what they may want to do as a future career. It is lovely to see students take all the opportunities that come their way within Hampton Academy, and that they use these experiences to help make choices about the future: “The overall performance went really well and I really enjoyed it. I think in the future I may follow a dance or art (designing dance costumes) career. I will pursue dance in the future as it means a lot to me and I have already learnt and taken part in a lot."
