What Impact ?

The 7th of January was the launch day for the Year 7 students' third themed curriculum module, entitled  'A Star'.  It was an 'Arts Impact Day' asking the questions,  'Who inspires you?' and 'What attributes do you need to be a star?'.   Most of all it gave  the message to the students that they can all shoot for the moon and even if they fail they'll still be amongst the stars!

The morning started with  performances by professional musicians, dancers and a comedian.  After the first ten minutes the students were swept along with the music and were on their feet clapping and dancing along. The comedian gave them a brief stroll through classic comedians from Tommy Cooper to Frank Spencer and on to Ken Dodd. Laughter rang out through the hall. Mrs Carpenter, our Conrad College Coordinator, really enjoyed herself; seeing her laugh made everyone laugh even more! The dancers, 'Slapdash Productions' wowed the audience by performing seven musical theatre numbers, showing the whole spectrum of musical theatre.  High school musical was definitely the favourite.

Students thoroughly enjoyed interacting with the professional performers in the exciting workshops that took place during the rest of the day.

The BIG question is...

did the impact day have an impact?

Having toured the 'A Star' arts workshop this week, anyone could see the confidence of the Year 7s in performance.  This week the spotlight has been on comedy; with a stand-up comedy workshop and exploring timing, storytelling and intonation.
"What's the weather like down there?"
"Waiter, there's a fly in my soup!
What's he doing? The backstroke"
"Boom! Boom!"
Mr Mitchell, actor in residence, joins students in
"Ding, Ding, Bus Stop"
"And mummy says I'm a good little girl"
Seven out of ten Year 7's said that Dads are the worst joke tellers? Prove them wrong and e-mail your 5 best 'Dad jokes' to amitchell@hamptonacademy.org.uk.  There will be a prize for the best entry and the jokes will be included in the A Star show.

Next week the spotlight is on music  - from Elvis Presley to Lady Gaga
