Stop GAP Dance Company

On Monday 27th September 2010 the year 11 GCSE Dance students from Hampton Academy were able to participate in a dance workshop with ‘StopGAP Dance Company´ - A Disabled and Able bodied Dance Company. The students enjoyed the experience of working with the group and learnt many new skills.
“This workshop has made me want to go further. I would really like to teach in the future"
Robert Taw

“This workshop has changed my views on what dance is, as it has made me realise that dance can be anything"
Lucie Blood-Courtney

“People with disabilities are not “different" they are people like anyone else"
Elliott Crane

“The workshop has made me into a stronger dancer, and I know that we can do so much more if we put the work and effort into it. It was lovely to talk to the teacher in the wheelchair, and to learn that she did not give up on her dancing career when she was injured. Having this workshop and opportunity to talk to dancers with disabilities has made me look at dance from a different perspective. The teachers are doing a great job by helping students like us.

"I have learnt that just because people are different doesn´t mean they can´t do what others can do, and it doesn´t mean that they cannot dance. You do not have to have full use of your body; you can still send a message to the audience"
Saire Dabanli

“The new skill I have learnt today is adaptation. This workshop helped me with my dance performance by enabling me to push myself during the technique and creative. I learnt that all people can dance and that if you work hard enough you can do anything. This has really inspired me to become a professional dancer."
Daniela Cassiano

“I have learnt that disabled people can dance, and that disabled and non-disabled dancers can dance together and do the same dance, just in a different way. The workshop has helped me because I have seen movements that I have not seen before and I can use them in my GCSE dances that I need to produce. The dance skills I have learnt today have helped me push myself. The workshop has changed my view, as previously I did not think that disabled people could dance"
Shannon Painter

“This workshop has been a good experience in many ways. It has helped my dance technique look more professional in a way that people watch me and they would say ‘wow´ straight away. I have learnt that whether you are disabled or not you are human. I have changed my view on the question ‘What is Dance?´ as I now understand that to dance you do not have to be perfect. I have learnt a life lesson through this workshop also. It is important to always follow your dreams and follow your heart"
Dunella King
