The Art Department has been awash with bold colours and a range of textures for the last two weeks and what a wonderful atmosphere there has been.“ It was really fun and I got to express my creativeness"
A group of Year 7 students, showing a high level of skill, enthusiasm for art and design and an ability to work with others were chosen to participate in the workshop. This was a great opportunity for team building, learning about another culture, growing in self confidence and producing work for a community event.
We wish to thank Tamanna from ‘BollyKidz´ who has also been working with us and educating us all about the Hindu Festival of Holi. We learned that this festival is the most colourful festival in India; every year celebrating the end of winter and a fresh start.
“I liked this project because I had a chance to learn a lot about another culture and I would certainly do it again" Edward Tooth
Upon finishing the two day workshop, the visiting artist, Tamanna wrote,
“All the children were very artistic, really creative and most of all enthusiastic to do the Holi Workshop. They have made a very beautiful Peacock, using lots of different materials to make this stunning art piece. I have really enjoyed working with them as a team. They are all fabulous."
Hampton Academy´s young budding artists created a series of backdrops in traditional Rangoli design using rice, lentils, and coconut in an array of bright ‘HOLI´ colours.
You can see the artwork, our students dance and experience a whole range of activities at Orleans House Gallery, Riverside, Twickenham this Sunday 20th March 2011.
Come along and welcome in Spring!
